Born into a creative, resourceful and entrepreneurial family, in my earlier years I studied the History of Art and over time life took interesting turns through interludes in dress design, the world of fashion, and contemporary art galleries. This developed into a love of the beautiful, a passion for combining art and furniture and a dedication to creatively turning the traditional or outdated into the distinctive and novel.

In 2018 while (on my knees on the kitchen floor) revamping a shabby reproduction dresser into what I actually wanted, the penny dropped for me that I could do this for a living. I’d transformed various items in the past and embarked on a series of collaborative DIY projects, but in that moment as my imagination flickered it became a genuine prospect and I realised that I was ready to turn this colourful, fun, and rewarding hobby into a business. The possibilities literally grew from there….and have kept on growing. As a positive, inventive, and resilient person, essentially I enjoy solving problems and ‘fixing’ all kinds of things, I love research and learning, and adore secrets, mysteries and puzzles. I get to use all of these qualities in the way I’ve established Smith Paisley Designs.

​As the artist and owner of SPD,  from my at-home creative design studio I produce unique statement furniture with flair. You could call me a professional re-designer. My aim is to constantly add value and beauty to an item, and always to inspire. Personal satisfaction with all aspects of the work and a genuine desire to keep it in my own home is my standard for each piece.
